This track, which ran the length of the driveway probably took more than an hour to construct -- all for what will probably be five to 10 seconds of actual footage. A cameraman on a dolly was pulled up the track while filming Edie Falco (Carmela) driving the Mercedes wagon up the driveway and into the garage. We watched a few takes from the dining room window, and I took these photos, also through the window, but we were eventually shooed back because our faces were showing up on film. Ooops! |

Edie's driving skills were pretty impressive. She could back down the driveway as fast as she drove up. When she got out of the car at the end, we were amused to see that she was wearing blue jeans with her very dressy green top (and carrying the matching shoes in a clear plastic bag). Of course, only her top would have been visible through the car window. (And I don't know why she had the shoes with her.) |

The crew spent a few hours working in the backyard near the pool setting up for James Gandolfini's arrival to shoot the scene. |

This is from just in front of the screened porch looking toward the "Cusamano's yard." The man to the right is a member of the film crew. |

Prior to filming, James got miked and discussed the script with David Chase. |

Here's a closer shot of the front of the house. |
| The scene they shot near the pool that afternoon was probably less than a minute long, but it was several hours of work, even after James arrived. The day I spent there gave me a real appreciation for the craftsmanship and care that go into this series. I used to complain that I felt cheated by "only" getting 13 episodes per season. But after seeing what goes into the making of each small part of each episode, I've more than gotten over those feelings! |
